Daniel Atik is a tech entrepreneur, artificial intelligence consultant, speaker and science communicator from Barcelona, Spain, who has lived in Chile since 2005.[1][2] He is a co-founder of CodeGPT, Judini and Open Montessori, and the founder of AI for Education XD, NotesXD, TeamsXD and Lorito, among other projects.[1][3] He has worked at companies such as Mercado Libre, Mercado Pago, Mapcity and Nubox, mainly in product, partnerships, payments and APIs.[1]

He is the author of the books La IA (parts I and II) and the novel A los pies de una Ceiba, and co-hosts, with Andrés Bustamante, the podcast ¡Ay, Robot! about robotics and artificial intelligence.[4][5][6] In 2026 the XD educational ecosystem he founded was named a laureate of the Teacher Innovation Award at the AI for Education Awards in Geneva.[7]

Biography

Early life

Atik was born in 1970 and is from Barcelona; before settling in Chile he also lived in Malabo (Equatorial Guinea), Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Madrid.[8] He got into computing in 1982 with a Sinclair ZX81, followed by other machines such as a Spectrum and a Commodore VIC-20.[8][2] In a 2025 interview he said that his interest in programming, going back to the 1980s, was fuelled by films such as WarGames and by his curiosity about building rudimentary conversational assistants.[9]

Early jobs and companies in Spain

According to his professional profile, in the late 1980s he worked as an application tester in Clipper at Action Systems and later at Mibuga S.A.[3] From 1992 to 1996 he was CTO and co-founder of Training Park, a centre that trained users in the software of the time and became part of the New Horizons Computer Learning Center franchise (New Horizons Barcelona).[8][3] From 1996 to 2005 he was CTO and co-founder of ServicioHelpDesk, a company providing remote technical support by phone, email and remote control.[8][3]

Move to Chile

He settled in Chile in 2005.[8][2] In his first years in the country he was the exclusive representative of the Rolser shopping-trolley brand, based in Viña del Mar, an activity he kept until 2009.[8][3] He currently lives in Pucón, in Chile’s Araucanía region.[8][3]

Career

Mapcity. He worked in two stages at Mapcity, a Chilean mapping and geolocation company, as a product manager / product owner in the innovation and new-projects area: the first from 2009 and the second until 2016. He developed Mapcity Life and took part in building Geofinder and other location-based B2B tools.[8][3]

Mercado Libre and Mercado Pago (2016–2020). He joined Mercado Libre in 2016 in developer relations and later became a tech partner and project lead for the Southern Cone in the open-platform team, where he developed the Mercado Libre Developer Partner Program.[8][3] From 2019 to 2020 he worked at Mercado Pago Chile as an expert and lead for online-payment and in-store QR payment integrations.[8][3]

Nubox (2020–2022). He was a senior product manager at Nubox, in charge of the strategy, planning and launch of product improvements and new features.[8][3]

Independent consulting (since 2022). Since October 2022 he has worked as an independent advisor and consultant in technology, innovation and artificial intelligence.[8][3] His profile mentions consulting work for companies such as ForceManager, Nube Cowork, Clever-It and Cencosud.[3] On his website he offers to support C-level executives, boards and leadership teams in turning the potential of AI into competitive advantages.[1]

Stimson Center. He took part in the Stimson Center’s Responsible AI Fellowship, a programme that brings together stakeholders from developing countries to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence and propose responsible ways forward; the centre lists him as a Responsible AI Fellow Alumnus.[2][10]

Ventures and projects

Early social platforms (2005–2015)

  • ChatPerfect (2005–2007): a commercial chat that could be installed on websites to make it easier for shoppers and sellers to interact.[8]
  • Meetgood (2006–2008): a dating social network based on profile search and one-to-one chat.[8]
  • Metaki (2008–2010): a geolocated microblogging network organised around “what, when, where and with whom”.[8] In 2009 outlets such as Genbeta and NeoTeo covered its relaunch, which let users share their location from the web or a phone and sync their activity with Twitter.[11][12]
  • Lukkin (from 2011): a social network co-founded and led by Atik. In 2012 it was presented as a platform that integrated social networks so that people would not lose their history when creating content, and CNN Chile described it as a Chilean venture with five thousand followers; it was later defined as a social network where people, foundations, NGOs and companies came together for the common good.[13][14][15][3]

A 2012 Universidad del Desarrollo article also mentions that he created sites such as Flash Mob Chile and apps such as SOS Me and others related to augmented reality.[13]

Payments

He founded a service for sending Mercado Pago payment links via WhatsApp and other platforms, which ran on the domains pagame.cl, mpago.co and paga.ar.[8][3]

CodeGPT and Judini

He is a co-founder of CodeGPT, a platform of artificial intelligence assistants for developers that integrate with environments such as Visual Studio Code and IntelliJ, and that also lets companies build specialised assistants on their own data.[8][3] Between 2023 and 2026 he was its chief product officer (CPO) and later head of quality, customer support and data analytics.[3][8][16]

He is also a co-founder of Judini, a company that implements AI in businesses and an ElevenLabs partner, specialising in conversational voice agents for B2B; since 2025 he has worked there as a voice AI solutions architect.[8][3]

Open Montessori and AI for Education XD

He is a co-founder, director and investor of Open Montessori, an online educational project for children aged 3 to 13 based on the principles of Montessori education and supported by Montessori guides.[3][8]

In December 2022 he founded AI for Education XD, a set of AI-powered educational platforms: EducaXD (personalised learning that guides students with the Socratic method), SchoolXD (school management with an AI assistant) and InnovaXD (positive news adapted for children).[3][17] According to the project, EducaXD and SchoolXD have been used at Open Montessori since 2023.[17] In 2025 interviews he also presented EducaGPT, a conversational platform that adapts to the student’s age and curriculum, includes its own browser (EducaGPT Explorer) and provides reports to tutors.[9][18]

Productivity apps

  • Lorito: an audio social network for iOS and Android in which AI generates the title, description and categories of each audio clip.[8][19]
  • NotesXD (2026): a native macOS app for notes, tasks and AI meeting transcription that keeps data stored locally.[8][20]
  • TeamsXD (2026): a web app that replaces daily status meetings with asynchronous AI updates, automatic minutes and email summaries.[8][21]
  • FocusXD: a macOS menu-bar app that dims everything except the active window, published on the App Store under Daniel Atik’s name.[22][23]
  • TranslateXD: a simultaneous-translation app for macOS presented on his website, which translates the microphone, the system audio or both in a floating window.[24]

El Club de la IA

Since 2023 he has been a co-founder and administrator of El Club de la IA, a Spanish-speaking artificial intelligence community organised on WhatsApp and Discord.[3][25][16]

Written work

  • La IA: Pasado y presente para entender el futuro de la Inteligencia Artificial (2023). Self-published in March 2023 (207 pages), it is a historical introduction to where artificial intelligence comes from and why it got to where it is.[26][1] It has an English edition titled AI Wars (April 2023).[27][3]
  • La IA II — Crónicas de una nueva Era (2026). A chronicle of what happened in artificial intelligence between January 2023 and June 2026, in 69 chapters and 474 pages. The author offers both parts free of charge in PDF and ePub.[4]
  • A los pies de una Ceiba (2020). A novel based on real events about the life of Mercedes, published in July 2020.[5][8]

He also publishes analysis pieces on technology and AI on LinkedIn, such as “La singularidad llegó sin avisar” (August 2026) and “Lo que puede acabar con la humanidad es pensar que la IA puede acabar con la humanidad sola” (September 2026).[3]

Talks and keynotes

He gives keynotes and talks on agentic AI and its governance (including voice agents), the adoption of humanoid robotics in companies, and tailored content for boards and teams.[1] His documented appearances include:

  • 2012 — A talk for students of the Universidad del Desarrollo School of Communications, who were tasked with designing the digital launch strategy for Lukkin.[13]
  • December 2023 — Featured guest at “#AISummerParty: el Futuro de la Inteligencia Artificial”, organised by Startup Grind Santiago.[16]
  • August 2025 — Took part in DESATA, ICARE Chile’s people-management event with more than a thousand attendees, with a live demo of how to apply AI to people management.[28]
  • August to November 2025 — A series of open, in-person AI seminars at the Pucón campus of Universidad de La Frontera, one a month.[29]
  • June 2026 — A talk on AI and agent orchestration at the BICE Ventures Summit, alongside Javier V., general manager of ElevenLabs for Mexico and Latin America, in which he argued for “governance from day one” (ethical frameworks, auditability, traceability and safety kill switches).[30]

Podcast

La Azotea. Since 2019 he has produced and hosted La Azotea, a podcast about technology and digital culture with guests; in 2019, for example, it aired an episode from Buenos Aires with Javier Goilenberg of Real Trends.[3][31]

¡Ay, Robot! In August 2026 he launched, together with Andrés Bustamante, co-founder of Authomata.ai, ¡Ay, Robot!, a weekly Spanish-language podcast about current events in humanoid robotics and applied AI, available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and YouTube.[32][6][33][8] The site ayrobot.cl also features a selection of robotics news chosen by Atik.[6]

Education and technology

Education with artificial intelligence is one of the main threads of his work. In interviews he has advocated using AI as a tool rather than a replacement for human judgement, has said that the greatest danger is ignorance, and has argued that chasing plagiarism with detectors is pointless unless assignments and assessment are redesigned.[9] In 2025 he was interviewed on Mauricio Paegelow’s podcast IA en tu Rol about how children can learn with artificial intelligence.[18]

AI for Education XD presents itself as a free educational AI that puts children’s safety first.[17] After receiving the 2026 award, Atik explained that he was looking for tech companies, foundations and organisations willing to co-fund the ecosystem, which he describes as a non-profit educational project born in Chile and connected to the curriculum.[34]

In the global competition of the AI for Education Awards 2026, organised by d-teach online school and concluded in Geneva during the AI for Good summit, the project “XD Educational Ecosystem: AI-Powered Personalised Learning for K–12 Montessori Education” (Chile) was one of the three laureates.[7][17] Atik travelled to Geneva to receive the award.[34]
